The Next Era for Pokémon Trading Card Game Focuses on Original 151 Set

Welcome to a nostalgic trip down memory lane! The Pokémon Company has a special treat for all Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) enthusiasts. Brace yourselves for the next TCG set that pays tribute to the original 151 Pokémon. Dubbed the Pokémon TCG Scarlet and Violet-151 expansion, this fresh set is a nod to the critters that marked the inception of the franchise.

Back to the Origins with Pokémon TCG

Following the two sets themed on the latest Pokémon video games, this new expansion revolves exclusively around the first-generation pocket monsters. An exciting fusion of old and new, the Pokémon in this set will be portrayed within the contemporary region of Paldea, the setting of the most recent Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games.

Scheduled for launch on September 22, 2023, the expansion will be available in stores and on the Pokémon TCG Live app.

What’s in Store for You with Scarlet and Violet-151?

A host of premium cards is lined up to be part of this unique homage to the original 151. Expect to see:

  • 12 “Pokémon ex” cards
  • 16 “illustration rare” Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • Seven “special illustration rare” Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • 16 ultra-rare full-art etched Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • Three hyper-rare gold-etched cards

And how will you get these? The set will offer:

  • Single booster packs containing 10 cards each
  • Elite Trainer Boxes that include nine packs and a range of accessories
  • Poster Collection bundle with three packs, three promo cards, and a double-sided poster
  • Binder Collection with four packs and a binder capable of holding up to 360 cards

The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, which comes with two additional packs, is already open for preorders on the Pokémon Center’s online store.

Unveiling the Original 151 in TCG Format

While we await the complete reveal of the set, we have a sneak peek into the upcoming Pokémon ex cards that include fan favorites such as Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and the adorable Mew.

The 151 special expansion, as the name indicates, will feature every single one of the original 151 Pokémon from the Kanto region’s Pokédex. This is particularly noteworthy as this will mark the return of Kadabra to the TCG after a two-decade absence.

Taking the artistry up a notch, each evolution chain will be the creation of a single artist, encapsulating their unique perspective on certain Pokémon.
