It has been some time since the release of Pokémon GO, and with the release was an army of trainers-to-be scouring their neighborhoods for rare Pokémon. However, after a few incidents and some time, it seems that the fan following of Pokémon GO is almost non-existent. You would be wrong in assuming this though, because all across the world, people still take to the streets and parks in search of raids and gyms. This Augmented Reality based game is still very much alive and kicking, and its creators are not going to let it go down without a fight.

Truth be told, no fighting is needed yet. There are still millions of people worldwide that travel and search for new nests, raids, gyms, Pokémon, and PokéStops. Though a majority of the fan base has seemingly abandoned their Pikachu’s, the creators of Pokémon GO intend to encourage them to take up their Pokéballs once more with some future updates that are in the works. We will cover these updates and their impact of the Pokémon GO world.

1. PokéTrade

One of the most sought after features of the game since release, is trading. Your friend has two Charizard’s and you have none, now nothing you can do about that. However, in the future you will be able to fill out your Pokédex with ease when they finish their trading system. This will have a huge impact in Pokémon GO due to the rarity of egg hatches, regional, legendary raids, and hard to evolve Pokémon. Filling out the Pokédex is the ultimate goal, and this is the ideal way to achieve it.

2. Battle A Friend

Another sought after update, that has been confirmed to be in the works, is the trainer battle system. The chance to prove who has the best Pokémon knowledge and team, make rivals and new friends while you search for the Squirtle in your neighbor’s swimming pool. This will greatly impact the game. Pokémon in general is a game that promotes socialization throughout the history of Pokémon games. Be it trade systems, or competitive battles, the Pokémon Company has encouraged trainer interaction. Implementing this interaction, more so in Pokémon Go, would have an effect not only on the game, but how we approach each other in real life.

3. Enhanced AR

Though never officially confirmed to be a future update for Pokémon GO, an enhanced AR has been spoken about by Ishihara. He stated that “Even if you say Pikachu is there, no one really thinks that.” in reference to the augmented reality restrictions that they are seeking to improve. He also makes comments that outline a desire to have an AR that is more interactive with the reality it ‘exists’ in. In short, instead of your Pikachu standing on air in the middle of the chair, it would instead hop onto the table and stand more realistically. This would definitely change the way we look at the world of Pokémon Go.

There are a lot of changes we would love to see with Pokémon GO, and other Pokémon games in general. Luckily, Niantic and the Pokémon Co. is working hard to fulfill these wishes. They haven’t released any information that signify a time frame of the updates, but they do state that there is so much more to come. They hint at greater things by stating that Pokémon GO is only 10% of what they plan it to be.

Let us know what updates you’d like to see implemented, and what would it take to get you to pick up Pokémon GO, if you have put it down already.
