Legendary Pokémon Kanto Region (First Generation)

Legendary Pokémon are among the rarest creatures in the Pokémon universe. Hard to find, and even harder to catch. Each Pokémon game has a few of them hiding somewhere, waiting for keen-eyed players to catch.

For the reading pleasure of Pokémon fans, we’ve compiled a list of the first ever legendary Pokémon introduced in the Pokémon series. These Pokémon appeared in the Kanto Region.

Articuno

An ice/flying type Pokémon, Articuno is among the three legendary birds native to Orange Islands in the Kanto region.

Zapdos

Another legendary bird, Zapdos is an electric/flying type Pokémon also native to Orange Islands.

Moltres

Last of the three legendary birds calling Orange Islands home, Moltres is a fire/flying type Pokémon.

Mew

Mew is a psychic Pokémon from ancient legend that dwelled in the Cerulean Cave. It is considered by many to be the first Pokémon and the origin of all Pokémon life due to its unique capability of learning any moves taught to it.

Talked about since early Pokémon games, Mew could only be caught in Pokémon Emerald with a special card; and a glitch made it possible to catch it in Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition.

Mewtwo

The most powerful among all the first generation Pokémon, Mewtwo is a mutated clone of the ancient Pokémon, Mew. Mewtwo was designed by Team Rocket scientists on Cinnabar Island.
