A New Record in Pokémon History Second-Grader's Pichu Card Auctions for a Staggering $25,000

When it comes to the colorful and captivating world of Pokémon, there’s never a dull moment. This time, a second-grader’s ingenious creation is making waves in Pokémon history. This young artist’s creation, a Pichu Spikey-Eared Pokémon card, sold at auction for an extraordinary $25,000 – the most expensive Pichu card ever sold.

The Pinnacle of Pokémon Cards

Collectible cards have long been at the heart of the Pokémon series, with rare items drawing in thousands of dollars for the lucky owners. The booming trade in Pokémon cards can drive prices through the roof, especially for the particularly rare gems.

The most expensive Pokémon card ever sold astonishingly fetched $5,000,000, with Pikachu cards typically being the most valuable. However, this paradigm shifted dramatically when a unique Pichu card created by a second-grade child took the spotlight, selling for $25,800 at an auction.

Second-Grader’s Triumph: Pichu Card Auction

First reported by Dicebreaker, this story begins with a children’s competition in Japan, where young, budding artists were tasked with designing their own Pokémon cards. The most exceptional designs from each age group were transformed into real, authentic Pokémon cards. Now, in 2023, the Spikey-Eared Pichu design, conjured by a second-grader’s imagination, fetched a whopping sum at auction house PWCC.

According to PWCC, this is the only card of its kind to hold the perfect Gem Mint 10 condition, a highly sought-after status among card collectors.

The Dark Side of Pokémon Card Collecting

The staggering price tags on some Pokémon cards have unfortunately led to an increase in thefts. Rare and valuable cards are stolen from collections, with thieves making off with significant hauls. Dexerto reported earlier this month about an incident in Arkansas where a thief made away with 30,000 Pokémon cards, a heist worth an estimated $12,000.
