Legendary Pokémon are among the rarest creatures in the Pokémon universe. Hard to find, and even harder to catch. Each Pokémon game has a few of them hiding somewhere, waiting for keen-eyed players to catch.
Below, we have compiled a list of fourth generation legendary Pokémon introduced in the Pokémon game series. These Pokémon appeared in the Sinnoh Region.
Uxie
Uxie is among the three legendary lake guardians. Referred to as the Being of Knowledge, it is believed that Uxie bestowed the gift of intelligence on mankind, and have the ability to wipe memories.
Mesprit
Another lake guardian, Mesprit is the Being of Emotions. According to legend, it transpired emotions of joy, sorrow, and pain in mankind. Lying dormant at the lake bottom, its soul can leave its body at times and fly to places.
Azelf
Last of the legendary lake guardians, Azelf is the Being of Willpower. Believed to have shared an egg with Uxie and Mesprit, it is said that Azelf keeps the world in balance from the bottom of its lake.
Dialga
A mascot for Pokémon Diamond, lore has it that Dialga, along with Palkia, was the first Pokémon created by Arceus, and is associated with the creation myth. Considered a god in the Sinnoh region, Dialga can control time, and it is believed that time began with its birth.
Palkia
Among the two Pokémon at the beginning of all creation, Palkia can control space and is a mascot for Pokémon Pearl. Regarded as a god in the Sinnoh region, it is believed that space began with its creation. Thought to exist in a parallel dimension, many believe that each of its breaths corrects the flow of space.
Heatran
A fire and steel type Pokémon, Heatran dwells in volcanic caves of the Stark Mountain. Its cross-shaped claws enable it climb up walls and ceilings.
Regigigas
An enormous creature, Regigigas is the leader of the three third generation Regi Pokémon. Although slow when it first starts moving, it is so huge and strong that it is believed it may have towed a whole continent once.
Giratina
Banished to the Distortion World, a dimension the mirror image of ours, because of its violence, Giratina can be found in graveyard. It watches silently from the other side, and is the mascot for Pokémon Platinum.
Cresselia
Cresselia represents the crescent moon. It lays dormant on Full Moon Island, moving only when it is seen. Its tail sheds tiny particles that look most beautiful on nights of the quarter moon. Cresselia possesses the ability to end nightmares, and holding on to its feathers when going to sleep assures pleasant dreams. It can also free those trapped in Darkrai’s nightmares.
Darkrai
The giver of nightmares, Darkrai can induce nightmares in both Pokémon and humans, and induce an extended state of sleep where the affected creature is trapped within their nightmares. It appears on a full moon night and induce nightmares in humans, and feeds off of the energy. This action and ability, however, is purely involuntary and Darkrai is not aware that it causes nightmares.
Manaphy
Referred to as the Prince of the Sea, the Manaphy hatches from its egg on the cold sea floor, often swimming great distances to return to its place of birth. With water making 80% of its body, the Manaphy is highly adaptive, and has the ability to bond with any Pokémon it comes in contact with.
Shaymin
Shamin is a flower and nature Pokémon that dwells in the Flower Paradise. It is incredibly shy and hides within flower patches, often curling up to imitate a flower plant to avoid detection.
Arceus
Believed to be the first being and the creator of all Pokémon, Arceus hatched from an egg in the midst of nothingness and went on to create the world. It is rumored to have distributed its power in several plates hidden across the region.
