The word got out yesterday that at least one Articuno had been located for the first time since the release of Pokemon GO. The legendary Pokemon is not just ultra-rare, it is unknown how to actually obtain them in-game yet.

One of Niantic’s spokesperson’s had originally suggested it must have been a hack in the system or some form of cheating. However, Chris Kramer, the Vice President of Fortyseven Communications released an official statement on behalf of Niantic that stated:

It was recently brought to our attention that several Legendary Pokemon were obtained by a trainer, when it should not have happened. In order to further preserve the integrity of Pokemon GO, and to be fair, the issue has been rectified by removing these Legendary Pokemon from those accounts.

They released this statement nearly a day after the Pokemon GO community began feeling ripped off and upset. It has been confirmed more than one case occurred, with one of the trainers claiming she had obtained Articuno directly from Niantic due to account issues, with video proof of the Legendary Pokemon.

Of course, this leads to an uproar in the community too, with players claiming obtaining legendary Pokemon that easily would ‘ruin’ it.

In the end, it does not tell us if these trainers obtained it due to a glitch, or an error in the game. However, it’s clear that the ultra-rare finds were removed from their accounts. Naturally, this would be devastating to those trainers, but it’s probably for the best.

Although, instead of logging in to find their ultra-rare find gone, we think those who were involved in the ‘mistaken catch could receive a limited edition medal.

Do you think these trainers should receive a limited edition medal? If so, what would you name it? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
